Can you sue a mall/ store for damages received during a fall while doing work there?

Additional Details:
My father fell thru a ceiling while working on lighted signs. He seriously injured his right hand
and arm. He now only has 20% usage of his hand and is in physcal therapy for the arm/ shoulder.
Workers Comp is paying the medical bills, but does he have a case against the mall/ store for
allowing them to work in an unstable area?
Legal Topic Area: Personal Injury in NC

It is more likely that his best claim is a worker's compensation-related claim. He could have a claim against the mall/store, but you would have to show that they had knowledge of the unsafe condition and did nothing about it or took steps to conceal the safety hazard.
