Do I Have Legal Recourse if a Creditor Sells My Information to Marketers? Justin Demerath
Q.
I've been receiving an inordinate amount of junk mail and suspect that one of my creditors may have sold my personal information to marketers. Is this legal? Is there anything I can do to fight back against this kind of unauthorized relaese of personal information?

If you obtained any type of credit between 1987 and 2000 a company called TransUnion may have sold your private information to marketers in violation of the law.
Trans Union is a credit reporting agency that may have violated your rights by valuing profits over privacy. If you had a car loan, home loan, student loan, or credit card between 1987 and 2000, you may be entitled to money damages.
A class action has already been certified and the class is closed, but as part of the settlement agreement with the class action lawsuit lawyers, TransUnion agreed that individual claimants could make direct claims and/or file direct lawsuits against the $75 million class action settlement fund until September 16, 2010. You should contact an attorney to determine if you have a claim.
