I am currently working with a lawyer because I had taken Zoloft while I was pregnant and my son was
born with a heart defect that required open heart

surgery. The lawyer I am currently with has sent me a letter stating that the Supreme Court ruled
that no lawsuits can be brought against generic companies. I am wishing to switch to another law
firm that is more actively trying to find an alternative to this. I am unhappy with the current law
firm in more ways than one. After calling them to suggest closing the case so that I can hire
another attorney, they suddenly have time to talk to me and figure out my case. It turns out that I
may not have taken the generic because of the company that manufactured the drug. I am wondering
what are the consequences of switching lawyers? The case has in no way been sent anywhere so that is
not an issue. Both law firms told me they get paid if there is a settlement. Is that still the case
if I fire my first law firm, or will they be allowed to charge me since I fired them? Any
information provided would be greatly appreciated. I''ve never had to hire a lawyer before so I''m
not sure what to do.

You should be able to change your lawyer without affecting your case, lawyers do not own your case it belongs to you. So if you can find another attorney that will take the case your current attorney can be substituted out.
