What is the recovery for a slip and fall in the store? What determines if you have a case?

I am a lawyer in Texas, so the law may be different in your state. You should contact an experienced attorney in your state to discuss your legal options.
Slip and fall cases are difficult by nature. Generally, depending on your status (i.e. invitee, licensee, trespasser), you must show that the owner/occupier of the premises knew or should have known of an unreasonably dangerous condition on the property and failed to warn and/or correct the condition. Usually, the issue of whether the owner/occupier knew or should have known is the central issue in the case. This can be determined in several ways, but can be difficult to show.
I wish you the best of luck, and I am sorry to hear about your injury.
