how can i tell if my lawyer is being honest about how much he settle my case for?

Legal Topic Area: Personal Injury in IN

An attorney should never settle a case without first getting the client's approval to do so. The client is the one that makes those decisions with guidance from the lawyer. If you are concerned that your attorney settled the case for more than they are telling you, ask to see the settlement check. In most personal injury cases where an insurance company is involved, the settlement check will be made out to you and your attorney, so it can't even be negotiated without your endorsement. Lawyers are required to adhere to strict ethical rules. If you do not get cooperation from your attorney, you can contact the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission to file a grievance.
