Auto
accident attorney DenverPolice and Fire Rescue received a call of an auto-pedestrian
accident near the intersection of East Mississippi Avenue and South Peoria yesterday at around 5:40
P.M. in Aurora, Colorado. A man was found laying in the gutter in front of the Denver RTD bus stop
suffering from severe injuries. Aurora Fire-Rescue transported the 78 year old male to a local
hospital, where he died from his injuries a short time later.
Witnesses provided the bus
number, route and indicated the male had been run over by an RTD bus. An Aurora officer
located the bus at North Peoria and near East 11th Avenue. While there was evidence on the bus
confirmed it had been involved in the incident, the bus driver told the officer he had no idea he
had been involved in an accident.
Officers from the Aurora Police Traffic Unit impounded the
bus for evidentiary purposes. The driver is understandably upset by the incident and is
cooperating with investigators. As part of this investigation the on-board video of the bus will be
reviewed.
While none of the witnesses could provide any account of how the victim wound up
under the bus, the investigation will continue in the coming days in an attempt to determine the
circumstances of the incident.
This is the third fatality since Saturday involving an RTD bus,
but unlike Saturday’s driver this driver is an employee of RTD. The identity of the victim is
being withheld pending notification of the family.
