Philip M. Tobin: San Jose Lawyer
When you meet with your new lawyer in San Jose for the first time, it’s natural to expect that he or she will do all the work. For the most part, this is true. That’s why you hired an attorney—because you wanted someone who would help you with your problem or assert your rights for you, but you need to put in a little bit of effort just to get the relationship going and support your attorney in his or her efforts for you.
Bring a few key items along, so that your lawyer has all the info he needs to get your case started strong without wasting anyone’s time:
Your personal information - Bring your identification and anything related to your identity that might impact your case. You may need to sign something in front of witnesses or have a document notarized.
Any information about physical injuries - If you have a personal injury case, bring all information about the injury, including police reports from the incident when you incurred the injury and any medical or hospital records relating to it.
Any financial information - Bring with you anything that relates to the expenses and losses you have incurred because of the other party. Show bank records if they relate to the type of case or claim you have. Bring receipts, invoices, or bills, too.
A list of witnesses and their contact information - If there were people present at the time of the accident or incident over which you are filing, bring their names and contact information if you have it. Your case may require that your attorney depositions them.
