Mistakes that Can Jeopardize Your Case

In the aftermath of an accident in Atlanta, many people are traumatized -- whether from a serious injury, extensive vehicle damage, or simply the emotional stress that the accident causes. No matter the reason, it's easy to become upset and focus only on what has happened, rather than what's coming next.

Atlanta accident lawyers have years of experience representing accident victims. They want you to understand some important dos and don'ts following an accident that can affect your case.

You should:

  • Seek prompt medical attention. Don't assume you're okay just because you don't have any visible injuries. Often serious brain and internal injuries are not readily apparent.
  • Be honest about the extent of your injuries and vehicle damages. The purpose of insurance is to make you whole after an accident, not to make you wealthy.
  • Follow-up with all recommended doctor visits, medications, and therapy. Otherwise, you may adversely affect both your physical condition and your claim.
  • Notify your insurance company whether or not you are at fault.
  • Take photographs of the accident scene and get names and contact information of witnesses (if you are able).
  • Be cooperative, pleasant, and considerate.
  • If the case goes to court, present a neat and professional appearance and follow your attorney's advice.

You should not:

  • Be rude, argumentative, or quick to blame others. In a situation where everyone is stressed, tempers can flare.
