strong>semi truck accident
involving three big rigs and a hay truck closed three lanes of the
westbound Interstate 10 near Date Palm Drive, spilled hundreds of bales
of hay and dropped 60 gallons of deisel fuel onto the freeway.
The driver of the hay truck said that she was slowing down because
traffic had backed up due to an overpass closure, when she was
rear-ended by another eighteen wheeler. Before both colliding vehicles
could come to a complete stop, another big rig crashed into them.
According to Cathedral City Fire Department, the two drivers of the
semi-trucks were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major
injuries. Diesel fuel and some type of acid leaked out of one truck and
onto the freeway, complicating clean-up efforts. Crews had to wait for a
hazmat crew to arrive from Riverside to clean up the mess.
